ALL STUDENTS PLEASE READ;
As you may or may not know, Redmoor Mill, where Jon Santry Martial Arts currently has our HQ, has been sold.
Myself, Precision PT and all the other businesses in the mill are having to find new premises.
From September, the way I operate as Jon Santry Martial Arts will be changing. I will not be acquiring another full-time premises.
I will also be drastically reducing my class timetable and taking a bit of a step back from my involvement in martial arts, certainly as a business, or a main source of income.
There are several factors, both negative and positive, that have led to this decision.
As many of you know, I’ve been in chronic pain for several years now due to my desperate need of a hip replacement. I am finally getting this much needed surgery this spring/summer.
The rehabilitation time for this procedure is considerable. However, ultimately, I will be able to get back to martial arts and the stunt work I do for film by early 2025.
The stunt work and acting I do have become more and more regular over the last 2 years and are much more lucrative than any of my other sources of revenue.
I haven’t been able to do it as of late because of my hip, missing out on many projects, including “Gladiator 2”. However, in 2025, I will be actively pursuing this aspect of my business again.
The film work often requires me to work away for sometimes months at a time.
As of recent months, attendance has been sporadic at best. To be honest, ever since covid, business has been patchy.
I absolutely realise that we are experiencing the worst cost of living crisis ever at the moment due to our enormously corrupt government, deregulation of the banks, energy companies, etc. Believe me, I feel it too!
I’ve been involved in martial arts for 37 years, and I will always deeply love bit. I can’t separate myself from it. It’s not a hobby or an activity it’s a deeply ingrained aspect of who I am.
My values and needs as an individual have changed over the years. I have other income streams in the stunt work and the security company that are much more lucrative, and I can leave work at work in those cases.
After teaching full time since the end of 2008, I am no longer really enjoying the business aspect of it. I am bored of selling myself to a market who on the whole would sooner accept low standards and mediocrity and play at training and take pictures for tik tok, than actually do the work and genuinely transform themselves.
I’m not doing this anymore! It’s not what motivates me!
As of September, I will be teaching the following classes;
Monday
Kids kickboxing 5-6pm
Adults kickboxing 7:30-9:00pm
At New Bodies gym New Mills.
Thursday
Adults MMA 6-7:30pm
High Peak Gymnastics Buxton
Friday
Family kickboxing 6-7:30pm
New Bodies New Mills
Other than that, I will be available for personal training for serious clients only!
If you want to train with me, I will invite you to an interview, and if I am convinced that you are serious about your goals, I will work with you.
At this time in my life, I simply don’t have time or energy to waste on wannabees. There are plenty of other local gyms dealing in low standards and mediocrity, so go to them!
I’m only interested in quality clients from here on.
As for my hardcore of extremely dedicated students, please know that I do recognise you, and the above classes will still be available to you.
For additional training in striking, I highly recommend either All Powers gym in Stockport or Too Technical, also in Stockport.
For grappling, I recommend Stratagey BJJ in Stockport/Oldham
he catch wrestling classes with Kev at Elite International Martial arts Head Quaters in Sharston .
These are the places that I will be attending/ returning to for my own training once I’m healthy.
There will be no changes in class times or prices until September, when the above timetable comes in to affect. Regarding pricing, from September, there will be no monthly payments. Classes are simply £8 per class , paid in cash, or by transfer on the night.
Personal training prices will be increasing from £26-£30 per hour from April ( except for my existing loyal clientele who will all receive discounts).
I hope that you will all continue to train with me come September, and indeed branch out and train at other quality clubs as listed above, and continue your own individual journeys in the martial arts.
Where as I’m not as outlined stepping back completely, the time has once again come for me to focus more on my own personal improvement for my health. My career and my kids.
All classes are back as normal from tonight after the closure due to illness last week .
Thank you, and I wish you all the best for the future.
Jon.
